This week's reading- Matthew 9 & 10
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”
In our reading this week we see Jesus as the perfect picture of humility. Jesus humbly loved people by healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons and forgiving sins. He does this with the utmost compassion and shows us the nature of God as he relates to people. No one was too unclean, sinful or broken to escape a life changing encounter with Jesus. All they needed to do was be willing for God to have his way in their hearts.
A dictionary definition of humility can be defined as having a low opinion of oneself, but a biblical definition would be to have a correct opinion of yourself. We are infinitely loved, have infinite worth and value before God, but we also remember that without God's grace we are nothing. To be humble is not to be self loathing, but have self knowledge. We recognize who we are in God's love and how he has created us.
When we love God first and 'trust him with all our heart' there is a mindfulness that occurs as we keep the will of God before our eyes. Our egos diminish and God's will increases. Where will Jesus lead you today? What situations will you encounter where you are being asked to serve God out of humility and with compassion?
Lord, what is your will for me today?
(Listen to his heart for you)
In Jesus name
