This week's reading- Matthew 25

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him the glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.”

Revelation 19:7

Jesus teaches in Matthew Chapter 25 more of what the kingdom of heaven will look like when Jesus returns. He likens it to a wedding, where there will be a period of preparation and a wedding banquet. Jesus is the bridegroom in this parable and we, the church, are his bride. It may be an unusual concept for us to consider marriage to Jesus, but as Christ's bride we are preparing for that wedding day. Ephesians 5:27 tells us that we are to present as a radiant church, without any stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

A Jewish wedding would have a lengthy preparation. First there would be a betrothal. This was like an engagement, but it was just as binding as marriage. The marriage ceremony would take place approximately a year later and the bride did not know the exact day or time the bridegroom would return. The bridegroom would give the bride an attendant to help her get ready for marriage. He would stay by her side until the bridegroom returned.

When we became believers we were betrothed to Christ. The preparation for our wedding with Christ began and we were also given a helper to get ready. The Holy Spirit is our attendant and stays with us until the bridegroom returns. He is helping us by removing our stains, wrinkles and blemishes and we are holy and blameless. We must be willing to let him help us, but we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption. Let's not fear what is to come. We can have confidence that Jesus is returning for his bride and we have been made ready for his arrival.

Holy Spirit, refresh me. Fall on me today.

Teach me, guide me and be my companion.

I am so grateful.

In Jesus Name
