2021_07_02 Insight Post- Emma Keeton

This week's reading- Mark 16

Today's post is a Lectio Divina using Mark 16:1-6. Lectio Divina is a prayer practice from the early church where scripture and prayer are combined. This method helps you go deeper in prayer and connect with God. Follow the prompts and take whatever time you have.

Prayer

I turn my attention towards you, God.

You are my rock,

You are my Lord,

I surrender myself to you.

In the name of Jesus

Amen

Reading

Read the passage 2 times.

Mark 16:1-6

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome brought spices so that they might go and anoint Jesus' body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

“Don't be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

Meditation

After the reading, reflect on these questions:

· What word or words in this passage caught your attention?

· What in this passage comforted you?

· What in this passage challenged you?

Prayer

Read the passage one more time. Bring to God praise, thanks or any requests about whatever inspires you.

Contemplation

Read the passage more time. Reflect on the following:

“Don't be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

What does it mean to me that Jesus rose from the tomb?

How is my life different because of the resurrection?

How can I see more resurrection power in my life? (Victory over unhealthy thoughts or behaviors, seeing the Holy Spirit work through me to bless others).

Prayer

As I go about my day, let me be aware of your voice, God. Let me love those around me by your Holy Spirit's power. I praise you for the resurrection! In Jesus name.
