This week's reading- Luke 12

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 12:34

Jesus tells us in Luke 12 that we should not worry about our lives. We shouldn't be concerned about the food we will eat, or drink. We should not give too much thought about the clothes we wear. Just as God clothes the animals, flowers and grass, so he will clothe us. Then Jesus says that we should not be afraid because the Father is pleased to give us the kingdom. We should not be concerned about what is temporary, but set our minds and hearts on eternity.

Recently I signed up for a subscription service that would deliver ME a box of lovely items to MY door each month. Someone had hand picked them for ME after asking ME a myriad of questions. This anonymous person seemed to care for ME. It was all rather exciting. The impending delivery date was getting nearer, but my bubble was about to burst. From seemingly nowhere came the soft, quiet nudge of the Holy Spirit~“This isn't good for you.” God knows my heart, he knows what my history is with obsessing over worldly possessions. I said back to God, “I can't have this, can I?” I knew that when I received it, I was going to have to send it right back. I was disappointed, but a little pleased too. If I was saying no to worldly possessions, I was saying yes to God's kingdom. The Father is pleased to give us his kingdom. There is something that is worth way more than a fleeting moment of pleasure: Treasure that is stored up in heaven. That's eternal.

What do you spend your mental energy thinking about? Ask God to give you the awareness of what does not line up with his best for you. Only Jesus can truly satisfy.
