This story (parable) is one where we don’t have to wonder about the meaning at all. Jesus lets us know at the very beginning, “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” Luke 18:1 (NLT)
What is important to understand, and He wants us to be very clear about this, is that God takes the needs and requests of His children very seriously. This is important because we can easily begin to doubt God’s love and concern when we don’t get an answer to our prayer immediately.
Several years ago a book came out called Your God is Too Small. The title captures the problem for many of us. One way it appears is when we think God should be focused primarily on our personal needs instead of remembering that He is the God of all in the world that have accepted His son and savior and lord.
Maybe I am praying for a nice sunny day so I can play golf while a peanut farmer is pleading for rain to rescue his crops. The point is that He not only loves me and pays close attention to my requests and needs, but He is involved throughout the world and working to bring grace, truth and justice to light. If He delays answering my request or even says, “No,” it is not because He isn’t caring, but because He does!
