It wasn’t that long ago that we were acting out this story in Kids’ Time. We had a kid on stage pretending to be Jesus and another playing the part of Pilate. We had kids in the audience chanting ‘Crucify him! Crucify him!’ I was standing in the back watching as the teacher lead the kids through the story and I was caught off guard by emotion. How many times had I been the one denying Jesus? I’d spend my morning scrolling through social media instead of having some quiet time with him. I’d ignore the text or phone call from a needy friend because I was too tired to deal with it. I’d pridefully choose my own way instead of seeking him first. I felt ashamed. I felt like one of the crowd chanting ‘crucify him!’ As I teared up I heard a gentle whisper, ‘I forgave them that chanted for my death, certainly I will forgive you, too. Turn to me and I will give you grace.’ You have never gone too far to be forgiven. He is waiting for you ask.
