Option Two- Week of August 8th

Dealing with fear and pride are life-long pursuits, and require that we regularly guard our hearts and minds from their danger. The following are passages that will help us stay focused on God and all that He offers us.

The next passages remind us of the blessings that come when we focus on following God as our top priority…

1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)

8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:8-9 (NLT)

The following are verses that give us perspective on fear and pride…

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.

Proverbs 29:23 (NLT)

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…

Psalm 23:4a (NIV)

6 But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
