“Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.” Matthew 28:5-6 (NLT)
Before I became a follower of Jesus I operated under the idea that faith is just a matter of personal preference and it didn’t really matter what you believed as long as you were sincere. To say that was naïve is a serious understatement! What you believe, and where you place your faith, is very important. In fact the object of our faith is much more important than the amount of our faith. If I have unwavering faith in something that proves to be untrue my faith will not make it true. Better to have a smaller faith in something that is rock solid.
That is why this week’s reading is so important to grasp. The fact of Jesus’ resurrection make’s Christianity unique among all religions and world-views. If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead then our faith is founded on a lie or deception and is useless (1 Corinthians 15:16,17). But the overwhelming evidence is that He did rise from the dead, proving that He is God the savior. This doesn’t mean that other faiths and world-views don’t have their good points. But it does mean that Jesus is unique among all humans including religious founders and leaders. It matters where we place our faith. If Jesus wasn’t resurrected then I guess it doesn’t matter what you choose to believe. But if he did this changes everything!
