It is pretty amazing to think about what it would have been like to be in the room when God initiated sending His Holy Spirit to take residence in His followers. No longer would the temple of God be limited to a geographic place, it was now in people - everyone that turned from their sin and accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord (1 Corinthians 3:16). It isn’t surprising this event would have unusual signs accompanying it like the sound, visual effects and languages. But make sure to notice the impact; the Holy Spirit doesn’t do special effects merely to dazzle. What we see is the equipping of God’s people for ministry. The special languages allowed them to tell others about Jesus so that every nationality could understand. Peter and others had new courage to address the same crowds that had just weeks earlier condemned Jesus to death. God’s Holy Spirit was enabling them to speak with power that began convicting people of their sin and helping them see their need for the Savior.
When we think about the Holy Spirit at work in our lives, lets remember that He is the same today as He was then. He is able and ready to empower everyone who trusts and obeys Jesus to do all God wants and asks. We have all we need to live full and impactful lives. Lets go!
