“ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8 gives us this promise from God; that He will give all of His followers power. This power is not just for random purposes but specifically to equip and enable us to join Him in finding and persuading others to accept and follow Him. This story of Phillip and the finance ministry of Ethiopia is a perfect picture of the way God works. Somewhere along the way this powerful official was made aware of God and was pursuing a relationship with Him. At great expense, he had acquired a copy of a scroll that contained the Old Testament writing of the prophet Isaiah. Phillip didn’t know this man or the circumstances just that God made it clear he was to go. God had orchestrated this meeting so that Phillip would be there just in time to hear the man reading and offer to help him understand what he was studying. As a result, Phillip is able to lead the man to understand who Jesus is and how to accept Him as his Savior and Lord. God wants to use you and me the same way as he did Phillip. All that is required is for us to be humble, listening and ready to act. If we do this, He will work in and through us to be His partners. There is nothing more fulfilling than being part of what God is doing. Guaranteed.
“It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant.” 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 (NLT)
