Option Two- Week of December 12th

Trusting God is what distinguishes genuine followers of Christ from mere fans. Trusting Him means surrendering our will to follow His. Joseph and Mary are solid examples of this and make great role models for us. The following verses are from the Old Testament and were foundational for Mary and Joseph, as they built their faith and trust in God. These same passages give us guidance into the life of trusting and obeying God, and the benefits that come with following Him.

3 But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. 4 I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?

Psalm 56:3-4 (NLT)

1 Why do you boast about your crimes, great warrior? Don’t you realize God’s justice continues forever? 2 All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you’re an expert at telling lies. 3 You love evil more than good and lies more than truth. Interlude 4 You love to destroy others with your words, you liar! 5 But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and uproot you from the land of the living. Interlude 6 The righteous will see it and be amazed. They will laugh and say, 7 “Look what happens to mighty warriors who do not trust in God. They trust their wealth instead and grow more and more bold in their wickedness.” 8 But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. 9 I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people.

Psalm 52:1-9 (NLT)

How does a man become wise? The first step is to trust and reverence the Lord! Only fools refuse to be taught.

Proverbs 1:7 (TLB)

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

Psalm 20:7 (NIV)

7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:7-9 (NLT)

Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the LORD will be joyful.

Proverbs 16:20 (NLT)
