Happy Monday, everyone! We got our first real taste of winter this past weekend with a little snow and pretty cold temperatures, but in typical Virginia fashion, the forecast is for rising temps this week. It’s definitely January in Virginia!
I hope your 2017 is off to a great start and am so glad that you have chosen to join us in the BRP this year! I’m excited for all that God is going to teach us. Have you tried any of the 5 ways to go deeper in God’s Word this week? We would love to know what you are trying and how it’s going. I’ve been incorporating several of them as I read – underlining/highlighting key things, asking questions as I read and trying to capture the big idea. God has shown me so much during week one! Some of my big takeaways were about Jesus’ tenderhearted compassion for those in need and a new awakening to the fact that the thing He wants most from me is my time. It amazes me to think that the Creator of the Universe wants to spend time with ME, but His Word confirms that as truth.
This week is going to cover a lot of territory as we look at chapters 6-11. We will see Jesus returning to His hometown of Nazareth and even though He taught in a way that amazed those that heard Him, because they had grown up with Jesus and knew His family, they refused to believe. Many of us can relate to being judged because of where we come, our family, or a past that seems to follow us. It can be easy to be misjudged and Jesus knows what that feels like. Other things that we will read about include the death of John the Baptist, Jesus feeding 5,000, and Jesus walking on water and all that’s just in chapter 6! Mark continues to focus on Jesus’ miracles and how His actions backed up Mark’s claim that Jesus is the Son of God.
Some questions to ask ourselves this week are:
What can I learn about Jesus from what I’m reading this week?
What can I learn about myself and how God sees me from my reading this week?
What is one thing that I can do or something that I can change in myself based on what I’ve read?
Enjoy your reading! We are praying for you as you dig in deep
