Option Two- Week of January 9th

For this series to have a lasting impact, you and I need to be brutally honest. This means being willing to admit where we are resting on our “buts,” instead of living in faith and dependence on Jesus. Each week’s Take Home Sheet will help you dig deeper into how to make personal application of the principles that are discussed in the message.

God isn’t unaware or uncaring. He uses hurts in this life to help us. In fact, if it weren’t for pain, sorrow and suffering, many of us would be content to not rely on God in our lives.

Here are a few passages that help reinforce for us that God wants to help us and is ready whenever we turn to Him.

27 O Jacob, how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? 28 Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. 29 He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. 30 Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. 31 But

those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:27-31 (NLT)

19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. 20 I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. 21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: 22 The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. 24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” 25 The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.

Lamentations 3:19-25 (NLT)

Since he himself (Jesus) has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Hebrews 2:18 (NLT)

28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

Psalm 86:15 (NLT)
