Wow, these first few chapters of Acts are deep! It kind of makes my head hurt. Sin, judgement, the law, righteousness, faith, obedience, and punishment. I can get lost in what feels like a big wheel going around and around. To help me sort things out as I was reading I wrote down verses that struck me. And because God is so amazing and He knows exactly what I need, when I went back to read those verses together it started to feel more like a straight line. Here’s how God spoke to me this morning:

They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshipped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. Romans 1:25

You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. Romans 2:1

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? Romans 2:4

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. Romans 3:20

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Romans 3:22

Can we boast then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith. Romans 3:28

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Romans 5:6

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. Romans 5:11
