I love reading through Psalms because it makes me feel like I have a personal front row seat to David’s prayer life with God. And that’s a pretty amazing show filled with drama, war, love, music, and wisdom. As Kim mentioned earlier in the week, I want to make prayer more of a priority in my life this year. I want to seek God’s opinion and wisdom before my own and other’s - consistently. My tendency, especially when I’m at odds with someone, is to go to others to get their advice. But really what I want is for them to agree with me.
David talks about his enemies in Psalms 5. Interestingly enough he asks God to show him the way he should act and the path he should take when dealing them. He asks for them to be caught in their own traps and to see their own sins. I tend to focus on how the other person should change instead of myself. The reality is I can only change myself.
At the close of this Psalms comes what I think is the best part, “11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. 12 For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.” Psalms 5:11-12. God loves all His creation and wants everyone to come to Him for protection and ultimately, salvation. In return, we get to sing joyful praises forever!
I want to keep to the forefront of my own prayer life this year the fact that everyone is a beloved creation of God and He has fantastic plans for them. It’s not my place to point out other’s sins or to judge them. This is my opportunity to pray for them and for me to grow in trust and faith.
