Being a Christ follower can sometimes feel like you live under a microscope. Whether we realize it or not, people are watching us to see if our words match our actions. There can be a lot of pressure associated with that, but there’s also an opportunity that we have if we are really open to Christ changing the way we live our lives and respond to life situations. We can either help pave the way for people to find Jesus, or our actions can be a stumbling block.
Sometimes criticism between believers can be more prevalent than criticism from the outside. Friendly fire can feel more devastating. We need to be so very careful with our words to each other and make sure that we react to each other in love as the brothers and sisters in Christ that we are. All of those “one another” verses in scripture are there to show us how we should treat each other, especially other believers.
Romans 14: 10-13 says: 10 So why do you condemn another believer? Why do you look down on another believer? Remember, we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. 11 For the Scriptures say,
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.”
12 Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. 13 So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.
These are such important words for us to take to heart. A world in need is watching to see if this Jesus thing is real. Let’s make a commitment to show them Jesus through the way we treat those both inside and outside of our faith. It matters.
