It is one thing to know that God asks all of His followers to be part of helping the world learn about Jesus. It is another thing entirely to become actively engaged in the process! Carefully read Jesus’ instructions to us:
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)
A disciple is simply a devoted follower. Jesus assigned to us the responsibility and privilege of helping our neighbors, friends, co-workers, classmates and all who are in our circle of influence to find Him.
Take a minute and write down the names of the people around you that don’t yet (or you don’t know) have a relationship with Christ. If it’s a neighbor and you don’t know their name, that’s ok! Now re-read the message notes and especially the Bible passages.
Pray for the people you are thinking about. Ask God to help you find ways to connect with them that will help build a friendship. Ask God to help you be a good friend, and to identify you as a follower of Jesus in a way that is honest and real.
Pray regularly. Invite other believers to join you in praying. Now watch what God does!
