I do my Bible reading several ways: iPad, laptop and also two leather bound copies. I take notes in these last two and plan on giving one to each of my kids. I hope to leave them a legacy of the incredible value of knowing God’s Word and applying it to all areas of life.

This week as I was reading, I found a note I made regarding Psalm 97:10. You who love the LORD, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Psalm 97:10 (NLT) I wrote in the margin the date, August 5, 2002, and a situation I was facing where someone was spreading malicious gossip about me, and that I was desperately trusting God with my reputation. Looking back, I can see how God protected me and fully exonerated me through what was a very scary time.

Sometimes we can fall into the false idea that if we follow Jesus, we will be immune to problems and pain. This is not the case. Of course there are times when God will shield us from harm, but there are many others when His plan is for us to endure difficult and unfair circumstances, so we and others can witness His loving and supportive care for us. I know during the situation I was in, He showed Himself strong to me and many others. My kids were aware of what was happening and how God worked, and my hope is that when they read my Bible and come to Psalm 97, it will remind them of the surpassing value of being in God’s good hands.
