Immorality can be so attractive. When I think back to the crushes of my youth, they always were the bad boys or the anti-hero. There was something romantic about how they threw caution to the wind to get what they wanted. The problem was they never showed the realities of the consequences of those actions. Proverbs warns against the deceitfulness of sin and almost begs us to seek wisdom. It’s so easy to get caught up in wanting what you want. That feeling can quickly slide into believing that you actually deserve what you want even at the cost of your morality.
Proverbs 5 talks about the danger of following immorality. It can be attractive and alluring, but it will lead to your downfall. You risk your health, your wealth, your reputation, and even your life. So, when you are thinking it might be worth the risk to step over the line just a little and dip your toe into the pool of immorality to get what you think you deserve or what you think will make you happy or comfortable – run the other way! Don’t even open the door to that thinking. It won’t be worth it. Seek wisdom, listen to your teachers, and exercise self-control.
21For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
examining every path he takes.
22An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
they are ropes that catch and hold him.
23He will die for lack of self-control;
he will be lost because of his great foolishness. Proverbs 5:21-23
