The pattern of the people of Israel was like this:
Take for granted the blessings of God.
Get tired of trusting and following Him.
Do whatever feels right - including adopting “ungodly” habits.
Reap the consequences of abandoning God’s ways.
Cry out to God in misery.
Experience God’s mercy in His rescue.
It is easy to see patterns like this in others but miss it in ourselves. Today, take some time and ask God to help you see where you are with Him regarding genuine trust. Think about areas of your life where trusting and obeying Him can be measured like these:
Do you have any relationships where you have not asked for or offered forgiveness? (If you have a genuine concern about how, please ask someone you trust to help.)
…and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
Matthew 6:12 (NLT)
Are you regularly learning what the Bible teaches and adjusting your thinking and actions to match?
10 I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:10-11 (NLT)
Are you serving with God’s church as He wants?
4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.
Romans 12:4-5 (NLT)
Are you living so that non-believers will see Jesus’ character and values in your life?
…let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:16 (NLT)
Are you honoring God with your support to His church?
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.
Proverbs 3:9 (NLT)
