Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done. It’s easy to think that way though, isn’t it? It’s easy to believe that those who do ‘good’ go to Heaven and those that do ‘bad’ go to Hell. When we look at it this way, we set ourselves up for a comparison. That’s pretty convenient because then, all we have to do is look for people who do what we consider worse behavior than our own. Then we can believe we are good, we are in the clear, or at least we are better than … fill in the blank. At this point in our thinking, it’s all about us and what we can do. God is the reward.

This isn’t the truth. We are all sinners. We have all fallen short in God’s eyes. None of us are worthy of Heaven. No one is considered ‘good’ or ‘bad’. We are either sinners or we are not. And the truth is, we are all sinners. We are either followers of Jesus or we are not. Salvation is not something we can earn by doing good. It is a free gift from God through His son Jesus. We have done absolutely nothing to deserve it, other than the fact that we are loved by God. He created you new when you believed in His son, Jesus. He created you to do good things. So go out there and do some good things. Do it because He saved you, not to try to earn His love. You already have it.
