10-30-19 Insight Post

Recently I got to be with my father as he spent his last days on earth. As we walked through that time together, from the hospital to the nursing home with hospice care, there were a lot of tears, but there was not any fear or dread. The reason for this is pretty simple: Dad had entrusted his life to Jesus, and fully believed that in His hands, was the safest and most secure place he could be. In our reading today, we come across a passage that should instill great confidence and hope in us. It reminds us that the promises God makes are solid, and true, and therefore we can 100% count on them. “… it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain…” Hebrews 6:18-19 (NIV)

Those of us who have accepted Christ as our savior and leader, can trust that every promise God makes is a guarantee. In honor of my dad, I want to share one of God’s promises that he held close from his favorite book in the Bible:

“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:31-39 (NIV)
